Lakeshore Elementary School

(Final Name of School TBD)
Lakeshore, ON

A new elementary school is being developed in Lakeshore to support the municipality’s rapidly growing population. Located near Rourke Line and Girard Drive, the project will help address capacity pressures at nearby schools and provide modern learning spaces for the community.

The new school is being developed by the Greater Essex County District School Board and is expected to accommodate approximately 600 students. It will help relieve enrollment pressures currently experienced at Belle River Public School and Lakeshore Discovery School.

Valued at approximately $22 million, the project will be constructed using insulated concrete forms (ICF), a building method chosen for its energy efficiency, durability, and accelerated construction timeline.

Construction was initially scheduled to begin in late January, however colder than usual winter conditions caused frost delays. Work is expected to begin shortly, with the construction team working to regain lost time through the efficiencies of the ICF building system.

The school has not yet been officially named, as provincial legislation currently under review will determine the process for naming new schools. A name is expected to be announced later in 2026.

The new Lakeshore elementary school is currently scheduled to open in September 2027, providing additional classroom capacity and supporting the continued growth of the Lakeshore community.
